Light House Community Initiatives

For the past 15 years, the Light House has been helping poor women in the Huye community establish mushroom and banana plantations as a means of sustaining themselves and their families. The cooperative is made up of over 20 women from the community around the hotel. The group is in the process of establishing their plantation area and will begin to harvest next year. In 2017 we were able to donate a cow to a member of the cooperative (1st picture credit of Igihe News)

The Light House Hotel also supports an initiative to build houses for those in Huye who cannot afford to build their own. The first family benefiting from this initiative had to abandon their old house after the roof and back wall started to deteriorate. Our goal is to serve the community with compassion, giving back to those who need help.
